Wedding Season is Here!

Wedding Season is Here!

This month is one of the most popular month to tie the knot! If you are like me and wanted to incorporate your pups in your wedding, this post is for you. When Scott and I got married 4 years ago I knew that I wanted to incorporate my 3 dogs- Baxter, Chessie, and Bay who we got when I was 11. These three dogs meant the world to my family and I. Since we were getting married at Chesapeake Beach Resort in Chesapeake Beach I knew unfortunately it would be too far for them to travel since they were 14 years old. I had to find another special way to have them a part of our special day! That’s when we came up with the idea to put a picture of my munchkins in my bouquet- it was close to me during the whole day! Here are some other ideas to include for four-legged besties in the big day-

Bouquet from our wedding!

  • Decorations– Use some pictures of your pals for the centerpieces, cake topper, invitations, thank you cards, or favors. You could also do a donation instead of favors to the local humane society!

  • Engagement and Wedding Photos– If you have a dog that is fine with people and a lot of activity you couple include them in some of the priceless shots. Be sure to use a photographer that is comfortable working with pups. Pinterest has a ton of ideas for poses and make sure to practice before so your buddy is comfortable in front of the camera and posing! Also, we do offer a wedding service so your pups can be part of the special day!

  • Ceremony– If you fur best pal likes to be around people why not have him walk down the aisle as the ring bearer or the flower girl : )

  • Be sure to get a sitter– With all of the final planning of the big day make sure you have your pets care scheduled- whether it for just the big day, days leading up to it- we got the walks covered when you are making those final details or the honeymoon!

The wedding day goes by a blink of an eye so take a moment and look out to all of your loved ones under one room and soak it all in! It will be one of the best days of your life and hopefully your four-legged best friend will be a part of it : )

Road trip with your pals- Beach version

Road Trip to the Beach

Is it just me or does summer mean road trip? I love this time of year to hop in the car and explore a new town…and why not take your four-legged pal with you? Here is a list of some dog friendly spots to check out this summer:

Road Trip!

Assateague, MD– Pets are permitted only in specific areas of the Maryland portion of the National Seashore. Your pup might enjoy watching the wild horses from afar that wander on the shore too! After getting some exercise on the shore check out Atlantic Hotel in Berlin and enjoy a nice drink on their patio with your four-legged pal!

Fenwick, DE– Fenwick Island State Park, this park is not too crowded during most of the year and is a perfect spot let your pup get rid of some energy!

Charleston, SC– This town has so much history! It’s the perfect place to take a stroll down King St, where there are stores for everyone. Once you are done strolling the streets of Charleston, go to Brown Dog Deli. They have a dog friendly outside patio and the food is great! After this, its time to cool off at Folly Beach which is a dog friendly beach! Dogs are allowed on the beach at anytime from October 1stApril 30th. During the peak summer months dogs are not allowed on the beach from 10am-6pm.

San Diego, CA– This would be a far road trip, but oh so worth it! San Diego is a very dog friendly town. The views are incredible, food is delicious, and its home to one of the best dog beaches- Ocean Beach Dog Beach. This beach is heaven on earth! Dogs are running around with one another splashing in the water, digging in the sand having the best of time! Personally, I could stay on this beach all day watching the dogs play.

Summer Treat Recipe

Summer Treat for your Four-Legged Friend!

We are in the middle of summer now and that means it is hot hot hot!! Like today, it is humid out there so our pets should only be outside for a limited time. Here is an awesome treat recipe to help keep your pup cool during the summer months

Peanut Butter Popsicle

Ingredients:

1 cup peanut butter, if possible unsalted and not sweetened (Check the peanut butter label to make sure it does not have any kind of xylitol, this is toxic to dogs.)

Half of a mashed ripe banana

Directions:

If needed add water

Mix the mashed banana and the peanut butter together in a mixing bowl.

Add the water as needed. (The water and banana aren’t essential, but they help with freezing consistency.)

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper, or use the toys that are KONG styled where you can add the treat into the cavity of the toy.

Spoon the mixture onto the tray or stuff it into the toys. Freeze the tray or toys for several hours or overnight.

Your dog is going to be extra happy after this yummy treat!

Helpful advice:

Pet popsicles can be made out of all kinds of things your pups eat normally, so test out to see what your dog likes the most.

The frozen Kong-style toys make a great cool-down treat for when you will be away for a few hours. Kooper and Dee’s favorite KONG treat is Peanut Butter mixed with banana frozen.

Try treats frozen in water, watered down wet food and your favorite frozen veggies.

As always, remember to avoid certain foods that can be harmful to your pets. Here is a list of some of the foods your pets should avoid.

Wishing everyone and their pets an awesome rest of the summer!

Vacation with your Pets!

Vacation time with your pets!

vacation

The summer months have arrived and that means it’s time for some fun in the sun! If any of you are like us you have a vacation countdown! Koop and Dee are coming with us, so it is extra exciting because it breaks our hearts when we go away without them! With that being said, since they are coming with us we have to make sure we are prepared with all of their supplies. Last year was the first time ever that we took the pups with us to go away so we were new in terms of what to pack for the pups. Let’s just say, I over packed a little too much for the pooches! Here are a few things to not forget if you decide to take your pup on a vacation with you:

  1. Vet documents- Bring along records of immunizations and a copy of rabies vaccine (should be up to date)
  2. Pet identification – Your pet should always be wearing a ID tag.
  3. Leash and collar (might be good have an extra)
  4. Blankets/dog bed- if you are driving having a blanket might make the pets feel a little more comfortable. Same with the bedding/dog bed. Some pets are comforted by the familiarity of their own.
  5. Toys- if your pups are like ours, they always have their toys out playing.
  6. Cleaning supplies- better safe than sorry if the pups have a accident! Most importantly don’t forget the poop bags!
  7. First aid kit and any pet medications that your pup might take.
  8. Food and water dishes
  9. Pet food and treats- you might be traveling to a place that doesn’t have a store that carries the food your pup needs.

Hope you all have a great week! Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather with your four-legged best friends!
